When is surgery necessary for low back pain?

A spine surgery or a back surgery can relieve some of the root causes of back pain. But, rarely spine surgeries are essential. However, when continuous treatment for over three months does not relieve the back pain, or when back pain limits the day to day activities impairing the quality of life, surgery is necessary. At times, unattended pain can lead to progressive neurological disorders, developing numbness or weakness, loss of bladder or bowel functions, and trouble in walking or standing. These situations also demand the need for surgery. Finally, when medications and physical therapy are not effective, and the patient is in good health, doctors may prescribe the spine surgery.
