The lumbar spine is positioned in the lower back right below the cervical and thoracic regions of the spinal cord. There are five vertebrae from L1 – L5 in it. These contain some soft tissues and nerves which control the transportation of synapses and information from the brain to the leg. The principal function of the lumbar spine is to withstand the whole body weight.
